Origin of Life

1658 px * 2022 px; Digital Art (ProCreate); 2021

In this illustration, I was trying to portray the origin of life. From my IB biology course, I learned that all vertebrate embryos go through a stage in which they have gill pouches on the sides of their throats, including humans. As time passes, they will develop into eustachian tubes in the ears. This feature is usually taken as evidence validating the evolutionary theory. To illustrate this idea, I depicted a baby with vestigial features of fish, including fins and scales, accompanied by a goldfish.
I also added abstract elements created by Hilma af KlintThe rose-red balloon-liked form in the center of the illustration was derived from No. 7, Adulthood. This pattern represents the baby's life force, and its red color stands for fresh energy and verve. Moreover, I created a composition of two circles and a tail above the red symbol, representing the sperm, and the orange oval form with a light yellow flower inside, which denotes the egg.
