Cover Design for a Coloring Book

1668 x 2224 px; Digital Art (Procreate); 2020

Here's the design of the front cover page of the coloring book I led students at my school to create for children in the Children's Hospital of Orange County. I designed the cover pages for the coloring book. The theme of the coloring book is "animals." In the advanced drawing class I took in my sophomore year, I learned one exciting skill is that the audiences are more likely to foster a sense of affection and intimacy if the subjects in the picture are looking at them. That's why I drew a lively forest with all kinds of animals peeping from the back of shrubs and trees. I hope the eye contact between the animals and children would serve as an invitation to create artworks! Also, one challenge of this work was to "jump out of the box" to make the coloring book more appealing to children. That's why I jettisoned the traditional color scheme for woods and used the pink color to draw the grassland and birds. The most right one is one of the internal pages created by me.
