Chameleon

This illustration is based on Anton Chekhov's short story A Chameleon in which he ionizes the distinct social hierarchy and visible prejudices against the underprivileged class at his time. For the background of The Chameleon, I put a "W" on the upper left corner of the image. In af Klint's artworks, "W" represents man and matter. Therefore, I chose to use this symbol to indicate the theme of Chekhov's story. The other symbol I used specifically is the cellular form in the upper right corner. The three dots inside the cell-liked form are organelles. The spirals convolved with the cell stand for DNA. In this artwork, I try to indicate that humans can hardly escape from avarice and selfishness, the typical vices, because they are selected traits in the evolutionary history and have been encoded in the genomics.
